2 days Itinerary:

My Trip:

2 days trip over the weekend is enough for exploring Alleppey.
We started on Friday night from Bangalore and reached Alleppey Saturday morning around 6 am. We looked for some cheap hotel or guest house . As the house boat cruise starts at 12 pm, So we had 6 hours and we were even tired from the 13 hour long journey. We used those 6 hours to freshen up, have breakfast and roam around the market.
The houseboat cruise begin from 3 different points in Alleppey. The most popular one is finishing point which is around 1 km from the bus stand and main market.
We checked in to the house boat at 12 sharply.
The cruise begun from finishing point backside of Ramada hotel at 12:30 with a welcome soft drink.
We were taken to Vembanad: The biggest lake of kerela.

The boat was docked around in one corner and we were served delicious food. The food was really mouth watering. Then we were taken around the Alleppy city. We even stopped around the market where we tried toddy also known as palm wine.
Toddy (Palm Wine)
We were then served tea with banana fries in the house Boat.
After roaming around the water city and experiencing an amazing sunset.
The amazing sunset at backwaters

After 5:30 it is time for fishers to catch fish and house boats are docked to a shore. After that we enjoyed some music (our house boat had a good music system).
We played some games and at 9:30 had our dinner.
Checkout time from boat is 9 am usually. So we got up in the morning freshened up, had our breakfast of Idli, sambar, tea and pineapple and checked out at 9:45am.

Our next stop was Ambalapuzha Lord krishna Temple.
Ambalapuzha is 14 km which takes 30 minutes from Alleppy. Either you can take bus, train or hire a car/auto. Frequent busses to ambalapuzha starts from municipal bus stand which is 1 km from the finishing point.
The temple is famous for paal- payasam(a sweet made of rice) and historic story related with it. The temple is also known as Dwarka of South India.

From Temple we came back to Alleppy and went to the Alappuzha beach. The time was 11:30 by now. We went to the water, played and enjoyed. At 2 we returned from the beach and had delicious lunch at Cassia Beach restaurant, The restaurant is economical and offers some yummy variety of north Indian food.
Then at 2:30 we went to the light house which is near the alleppy beach.
The lighthouse top is peaceful and calm. You can easily spend 45-50 minutes there. At around 5 we returned from the Lighthouse after clicking the pictures and enjoying the view.
We again went to the beach where the sun was ready to set in the Arabian sea and there were kites all around. We enjoyed the amazing sunset and took our train back to Bangalore from the railway station which is 10 minutes walk from the beach.

  2. Really enjoyed reading this detailed itinerary! Alleppey has such a calm and refreshing vibe. It’s interesting how the destination is now also becoming popular for Team Outing Places in Alleppey, where groups can enjoy houseboats and backwater activities together.
